EDWARD JOSEPH ZOBIAN, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Specializing in Cataract Surgery

 

Edward Joseph Zobian, M.D., is President of Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Zobian obtained his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Chemistry from Haverford College, and his Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  During his senior year at medical school, he was appointed to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society for academic excellence.  He served his internship at the Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco.

Dr. Zobian served a tour of duty as battalion surgeon of the Nineteenth Combat Engineers (U.S. Army) in the Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. During his service in Viet Nam, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal for heroism in combat. Dr. Zobian was Chief of the Department of Hospital Clinics at U.S. Kirk Army Hospital, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and Maryland from 1968 to 1970.

Following his discharge from the Army, he was an ophthalmology resident at the Wills Eye Hospital, in Philadelphia.  He was appointed Chief Resident Surgeon during his senior year at Wills Eye. Dr. Zobian then served as a Clinical Assistant at Wills Eye Hospital for over four years. He began practicing ophthalmology with West Reading Ophthalmic Associates in 1973 and has built a highly successful practice during this time.

In February of 1975, Dr. Zobian initiated the technique of lens implant surgery in the Berks County area, and has continued with a progressive approach to ophthalmic surgical care. He was the first surgeon to use small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery in the Reading area. He also was one of the first to do cataract surgery without the use of sutures. Dr. Zobian also was the first to use no injection drop anesthesia for Cataract surgery. He has performed over 15,000 cataract operations in his career.

Every January, since 1989, Dr. Zobian has traveled to the Philippine Islands where he has performed over a thousand free cataract and lens implant operations on poor Filipinos who were blinded by their cataracts.  Dr. Zobian is the senior Attending Surgeon for the Free Rural Eye Care Mission in the Republic of the Philippines.

Dr. Zobian is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Zobian is an attending surgeon at the Pennsylvania Eye and Ear Surgery Center, the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, the Pottsville Hospital, and the Limerick Surgery Center.

Dr. Zobian is the proud father of four sons. His oldest, Joseph is an ophthalmologist practicing in Hawaii. His youngest son, David, is a pediatrician at All About Children Pediatrics, Inc. in Reading, PA.

His hobbies include walking, gardening, scuba diving, and under water photography.
